The NSRI is working to get the public swim ready for this summer by launching swimming lessons to help adults and children; they are recruiting volunteers to help make this project a reality.
Sea Point, South Africa (07 September 2022) – Water safety is a top priority for the National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) which is why they are hosting the Survival Swimming Programme is to equip children and adults with basic skills to stay afloat should they find themselves in difficulty in the water.
The NSRI has several projects aimed and protecting the public when near water-sources but having the public educated in ways to stay afloat is essential to saving lives.
“As we jump into Spring and the weather warms up, our time spent in and around water increases however, so does the risk of swimming incidents and drownings.”
Caville Abrahams, Western Cape Drowning Prevention Regional Team Leader, says these lessons are offered free of charge, and it’s never too late to start.
“Safety in and around the water is our number one concern in this program and primarily we aim at children, but people of all ages should have this skill too,” he adds
This programme however needs more volunteers and Abrahams encourages those who would like to share their skills to join this programme if they are strong swimmers.
“This is how you can become a Survival Swimming Volunteer Instructor by visiting us at the Sea Point Pavillion (at the forecourt next to the pools) on Saturday, 17 September from 09h00-12h00 or email seapointss@searescue.org.za”, concludes Caville.
The Survival Swimming station at the Sea Point Pavillion is proudly sponsored by the Friends of the Sea Point Pavilion.
