Ready to create musical magic and take the University of Johannesburg’s prestigious choir to new heights is former member turned new choirmaster, Sizwe Mondlane.
Johannesburg, South Africa (01 October 2024) – The University of Johannesburg’s prestigious choir has a new leader, and it’s a familiar face.
Sizwe Mondlane, a former member of the choir, has returned to take the helm, carrying forward the legacy of his mentor, Renette Bouwer.
Mondlane, who first joined the choir in 2014, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh artistic vision to the choir, marking an exciting new chapter in its celebrated history.
Mondlane expressed his enthusiasm for the role, describing it as an honour.
“It is an honour to lead the UJ Choir, whose brand and heart have become my own. The principles with which Renette built this legacy are the cornerstone of my propulsive vision for the choir.”
According to UJ, the choir, renowned for its diverse repertoire and exceptional performances, has long served as a cultural ambassador for the university, representing UJ on both national and international stages.
As the choir embarks on a new chapter under Mondlane’s leadership, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation.
Under Mondlane’s direction, the choir is set to uphold its tradition of excellence while embracing new opportunities for artistic growth.
“Sizwe Mondlane’s appointment resonates perfectly with our vision of fostering artistic excellence and innovation. We are excited about putting this succession plan into action.
“Having trained under Renette Bouwer, Sizwe is well-positioned to carry forward the choir’s legacy. We look forward to seeing UJ Choir flourish under his leadership,” shares an optimistic Pieter Jacobs, Head of UJ Arts & Culture.
