Underdogs

The Underdog project was started to help at-risk teens see dogs in a different light and to help train the dogs to become more adoptable! The organisation is running a campaign to raise awareness and funds. This is how to get involved.

The main focus of the Underdog project is to assist at-risk teenagers with overcoming social and emotional problems, and learning valuable life skills, through the training of shelter and rescue dogs; in turn, teaching these dogs the skills to improve their chances of adoption.

Most children that grow up in townships are used to seeing dogs chained up or used in dog fighting so this project helps the youth to see dogs for their sweet natures and playful sides.

“From positive reinforcement dog training to practical life skills advice, our classes aim to engage, motivate and inspire teenagers to reorient their lives and find their feet in the real world. And in doing this, our young teen trainers can help their shelter dog partners to learn the skills they need to find Forever Homes.”

The project works with the dogs from the DARG animal rescue centre in Hout Bay, Western Cape. To find out more about the project check out their Facebook page here.

“Besides love and sympathy, animals exhibit other qualities connected with the social instincts which in us would be called moral.” ― Charles Darwin

The projects latest campaign is really sweet. They are inviting everyday people to join in their “Underdog” challenge and hope that they can raise some funds to keep the project running.

2) Post a pic of you and your underdog (two or four legged) and tell their story, and copy and paste this caption hashtag #ISupportTheUnderdog
3) Nominate two friends

You can see the example below.

This is Jake. Has was rescued as a 5-week-old puppy after being dumped under a bush in an informal settlement. According to his DNA test he is part English Setter, part Greyhound, part Husky, and part Pug! Jake thinks he is a human and likes to travel in the car with his head out the window and his hair blowing in the wind. He’s living proof that every #underdog needs a second chance. #ISupportTheUnderdog, an initiative that helps at-risk kids and shelter dogs, and I think you should too: 1) Visit @the_underdog_project_ct and make a donation via the link in their bio 2) Post a pic of you and your underdog (two or four legged) and tell their story, and copy and paste this caption hashtag 3) Nominate two friends I nominate @tamika_sewnarain and @charliefrost #TheUnderDogProject #ISUPPORTTHEUNDERDOG #ShowYourSupport #DoingYourPart #ilovetheunderdog
