This is all you need to know about Clubhouse, Wake Up South Africa and all the feel-good vibes that this new social media platform is bringing to SA!
Johannesburg, South Africa (12 March 2021) – “Wake Up South Africa” is a new type of breakfast talk show on Clubhouse hosted by Nick Jordaan, Simon Swanepoel, Patunia Makobolola, Danny Figueiredo and Brent Lindeque… and everyone else who joins the stage! Made by South Africans for South Africans!
But wait a minute, what exactly is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is a new type of social network and is based on voice and voice only – where people around the world come together to talk, listen and learn from each other in real-time, but there’s a catch, you can only join if you are invited, and most users only start off with one invite. Oh, it’s only available to iPhone users, for now.
Elon Musk is set to interview Kanye West on the App, Oprah has been seen in some of the rooms, and even Ashton Kutcher has sat in random audiences listening to chats, but what started in March 2020 as an intimate gathering space for the early adopter crowd has boomed and the App now collectively has over 10 million users – many of which are South African.
The rooms are vast and all incredibly interesting, but when Nick Jordaan from Rubber Duc joined a little over 3 weeks ago, he realised one big problem; even though South Africans were on the platform, there was little to no South African presence, and so he joined forces with Brent Lindeque and Simon Swanepoel to start South Africa’s first Clubhouse room called “Wake Up South Africa”.
The room was launched on the 19th of February and opens every weekday morning at 8 am – the conversation sways from political to motivational and even the odd, hilarious joke.
“It’s about sharing ideas, creating a space to have important South African conversations and most of all, a start to the day where you leave the room feeling motivated and proudly South African.”
The room has only been active for four weeks, but the growth and incredible perspectives being shared speak for themselves. The room closes every Friday with participants sharing their feel-good Friday song to create a “Wake Up South Africa” playlist!
