The Johannesburg SPCA is preparing for their winter outreach in June by raising funds to make warm winter packs to gift to 150 pet owners in poorer communities.
Johannesburg, South Africa (07 April 2022) – The Johannesburg SPCA has launched another winter initiative in the hopes of helping pets and their families through the winter. Many families already have pets but may struggle to keep everyone warm and fed due to rising costs or the fall-out from the pandemic.
While the SPCA hopes to also help the animals within their care, they also support the community. By supporting pets already living in homes, they can prevent more animals from ending up at their facility.
“With winter on our doorstep, please help us hand out as many bags as possible. Animals are going hungry and we can and will make a difference – but we need your help!!”
The Johannesburg SPCA launched the Autumn Appeal in March, asking for people to help them prepare for the coming winter. They have a variety of needs, from as simple as newspaper donations to a little more specific, like perspex boards to write on kennel details.
When charities are in need, people always step forward to offer help.
The team plan to do an outreach programme in June this year where they will be able to support pets within the community and get their eyes on the ground to help those in need. The goal is to make up 150 winter care bags that will contain a blanket, a food bowl, a bag of food for the pet and some soup for the owner. So far, they have managed to raise funds for 31 bags.
