Oh Dear South Africa, what is going on?
Johannesburg, South Africa (25 January 2023) – Dan Vee has written a song for South Africa (or more likely for our current leaders) asking what is going on in our country?
Dan is a well-known South African artist whose sound is a mixture of folk-pop and a huge repertoire of songs in many different genres. The talented singer is most commonly known for his covers of popular artists like Ed Sheeran, Lumineers, George Ezra, Jeremy Loops and similar artists.
His newest song poses a serious question to our leaders and is quickly gaining traction, with over 100,000 views after being uploaded a few hours ago.
It asks why we are “sitting in the dark for almost 12 hours a day, why our roads are so bad and why our money doesn’t stretch as far as it used to”. The song is only 44 seconds long but many commentators have asked him to release a full version.
Speaking to Good Things Guy, Dan says that he was sitting in his lounge dying from the heatwave with no electricity and the words ‘Dear South Africa’ came to mind out of pure frustration.
“The rest of the song was fairly simple for me to write as we definitely don’t have a shortage of topics to talk about. When writing the song, I really didn’t want it to come across as a hateful or malicious poke at anyone or anything in particular, so that is why I tried hard to keep it as light-hearted and vibey as possible because I honestly do love our country and all of our people and even during these ‘dark days’ have all the hope in the world that things will eventually come right.”
Dan also says that a full song is in the pipeline and will be released in the next couple of days.
