All you got to do is wiggle a bit, wiggle a bit, wiggle a bit.
Western Cape, South Africa (28 February 2020) – Yup, that’s a young Roxy Burger introducing a song – on Ktv’s Playback – that is going to get your feet tapping and body wiggling a bit.
It’s the first collaboration between David Scott from The Kiffness and Nathan Ro from Lonehill Estate, and in just one day after being released, the song is sitting at the top of the South African iTunes pop chart!
Scott says the song was created while at a songwriting camp late last year.
“Nathan sang me the best white boy rap I ever heard on a songwriting camp last year and luckily I had a beat which worked perfectly with it. We recorded the vocals in my parents living room in Joburg & the song was done.”
Ro landed a part in Kinky Boots at the Fugard Theatre, and during the re-runs of the show early this year they decided to make a music video.
“We met at NeverNew in Obs & spent our entire video budget of R400 on matching vintage wolf shirts. We were left with no choice but to film the entire video on my cell phone with a VHS app & I edited the video myself.”
Ro says the inspiration behind the song was seeing how many people say they can’t dance, and so they stand and watch.
“But dancing is not a solo thing; it’s a crowd thing. If everyone just wiggles a bit, it becomes a beautiful thing. A mixture of confidence and freedom can make sideline Silly a beautiful dancer.”
Ro also says that working with Dave from the Kiffness was an honour and a privilege.
“I love his mind. And even though there are long pauses between his words, he has definitely decreased my stressing and increased my blessing. He’s like an emulsion; I like him, he helps me to grow.”
Both Scott and Ro hope the song gives people the confidence to dance.
