Justin Sullivan has been working hard to film the process of fighting wildfires in the Western Cape his efforts have finally been revealed in a wildfire documentary.

Cape Town, South Africa – Justin Sullivan, the incredible wildfire documentary photographer, has finally released his documentary called “Walking With Fire”. It details the harrowing efforts made by firefighters and volunteers during wildfire season.

Justin has been exploring photography in the greater Cape Town region for the past four years, broadening his expertise in Documentary Photography – specialising in Cape Wild Fires – but sometimes getting great wildlife shots as well!

After completing his secondary schooling at the all-boys-boarding school Michaelhouse, Justin studied Development & Environmental Studies at the University of Stellenbosch. Justin completed majors in Geography & Environmental Studies, Public & Development Management, and a half-major in Sociology.

Sullivan now focusses his work on highlighting contemporary issues within South Africa, using photography to display insights into an unknown world. His documentary work from numerous Wild Fires around Cape Town has been highly recognised both locally and internationally, with various publications for print and online media.

Justin’s hope is that the new documentary will educate people about wildfires and get them ready as it is now the season for them to flare up.

Justin believes that fire is everyone’s fight and therefore, we should be doing everything in our power to prevent them, to assist the men and women that fight them and to come forward and report anyone who is responsible for them.

“This has been one hell of a journey and at times I thought it wasn’t going to happen… Through all the sweat and tears (there were definitely tears), the countless camera errors, close calls, vehicle catching alight and absolute amateur approach at the start, it’s finally out there. It’s not the original film I wanted, but it evolved into hopefully a beneficial educational video that will contribute in its own way… Shout out to Alistair Daynes for sticking with me on the line for those 3 months in 2018!” – Justin Sullivan
