Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity to reconnect and have a catch-up session with your girlfriends. Here are some awesome ideas you can use.

Friendships seem to be front and centre throughout childhood and early adulthood, but once families start to grow and careers take off, they often take a backseat to other priorities. Women’s Day is the perfect opportunity to reconnect and have a catch-up session with your girlfriends. We all know the classic girls night option that we see in the movies (think dinner, drinks and dancing), but sometimes that night out at a bar doesn’t make for the best conversations or bonding time. Here are a few out-of-the-box ideas which will bring you and your besties together.

Visit a winery

Going on a wine tasting tour is a great way to spend the day with your besties. You’ll get the chance to test your palate and learn new words that make you sound intelligent, like “botrytis” and “lees”. You might, however, want to Uber there or take advantage of Women’s Day and turn one of the men in your family into your personal chauffeur. Or better yet, host your own wine tasting at home. Just gather your friends and make a bottle of wine the entry fee. You’ll then be able to sip away in your comfort zone.

Have a pamper-yourself day

The only thing better than being in the company of your friends is being in their company while also pampered. Book a time everyone is available and head to a day spa for massages, facials, pedicures and manicures. This would not only allow you to share some quality banter with your loved ones, but also to find some time to relax and forget about your day-to-day responsibilities (for a short while, at least).

Take a stroll in nature

With Women’s Day being a public holiday, you might find yourself being at home for the day. So you might be tempted to use the extra time for daily admin like cooking, cleaning, and doing washing. It’s hard to relax when that stuff is on your mind. So, why not go out for the day so you don’t have to think about it. Meet up with your friends at Cape Point Nature Reserve and enjoy a slow walk along the scenic routes while looking over the Atlantic Ocean. You’ll also be able to take some killer selfies to add to your collection of memories!

Try something mosaic

Grab a bunch of your girls and discover the art of creating beautiful images by arranging small pieces of glass, stone or tiles. This therapeutic artform is an excellent way to get your creative side active. It’s also something which you could do to beautify your home. There are plenty of classes which are perfect for newcomers, and it’s a great way to bond with your friends. You never know you might be a master mosaicist!

Pottery making

Stop pottering about and get the (potter’s) wheel rolling. Learn how to make urns, vases or even bowls to keep your car keys in. Alternatively, you maybe want to express your creative side a bit more and put together a sculpture. So gather your friends and choose from a vast array of pottery pieces and start collecting ornaments for your home.
