It only took one social media post and a big-hearted Melkbos local to transform the WOW Project’s battered roof sheds into a safe, dry haven for its four-legged residents!

Melkbosstrand, South Africa (18 February 2026) – At The WOW Project headquarters, its dogs, otherwise known as “inn dogs”, rely on the sheds for shelter. Over time, however, these structures had succumbed to the elements; with rusted roofs and panels blown away, they were left in a particularly sad state.

A few weeks ago, the WOW Project posted an appeal asking for help with repairs.

“One little post went out, and we received so much more than we expected,” the team happily shared in a recent update.

The response was immediate. That very same day, a Melkbos local who works for a roofing company reached out, asking how he could help and offering to assess the damaged property in person.

Two weeks later, not only were the rusty roofs replaced, but the new ones were also kindly insulated.

“This legend approached his supplier, who didn’t hesitate to offer to donate the materials required to undertake the project. Together they just made it happen.”

With no more worries of leaks, chilly winds and roof sheets blowing away, the inn dogs can now rest comfortably and safely in their cosy, refurbished sheds.

Moved by the generosity and pure kindness of strangers who stepped in, in their hour of need, the organisation’s ‘dog mamma’ sent a shout out of gratitude from the rooftops!

“It’s usually the dogs that reduce me to tears …but you’ve made this dog mamma cry with such gratitude. I love good people, and you gents personify what’s good in our small community. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” said WOW Project Founder, Kerry Kleinhans.
