Touched by one girl’s creativity, Beanies for Beings stepped in to provide her with the necessary knitting supplies. She and her friends have since taken up knitting with great enthusiasm, creating beautiful pieces and inspiring others in their community.
Riverside View, South Africa (21 November 2024) – In a world so consumed with social media, aimless scrolling and keeping up with the latest trends, our hearts were touched by a group of young ladies’ unexpected interest in the old-school craft of knitting.
Sharing the story of a mother named Sophia who one day arrived home to find her daughter, Karabo, attempting to knit using braid string and two pen refills, was the Beanie for Beings charity, which was moved to nurture the child’s keen interest.
“When Sophia came and told me this at the shop the next day, I immediately sorted through our knitting needles and wool to send home with Sophia,” the charity shared.
Ten pairs of knitting needles and a bag of wool were given to Sophia who further shared that a group of her daughter’s friends from Riverside View had also been bitten by the knitting bug. Inspired by these youngsters, the charity has made it their mission to help them take this delightful craft further.
Since receiving the donation of supplies, the friends have sparked the cutest movement in their community. Sophia has received several knocks at her door as other young ladies approach her asking for knitting needles and wool to try themselves out at the craft.
Beanies, scarves, and the most beautiful halter-neck crop tops are just some of the items that these remarkable young ladies have already created.
“Young girls empowering themselves and learning a new skill, how can we not encourage and equip them with all the necessary tools to do so?” said Beanies for Beings which has beautifully pledged to ensure these girls have a supply of wool and knitting needles.
