Sometimes we need a reminder of what matters, and what we should be focusing on… so here are 20 points to living (and working towards being a better human).

Johannesburg, South Africa (01 February 2023) – It’s the start of a new month which is always a great time to refocus. Not that anything really changes… unless we make some changes for ourselves.

So we’ve put together 20 points to living (and working towards being a better human).

Read them below.

1. Live beneath your means. And try to save a little too – for a rainy day or a beach holiday. My bestie calls it an “oh-f**k fund”. Work towards having one.

2. Return everything you borrow. This includes energy. Sometimes we need to be the ones that initiate that “check-in” message instead of them being that person all the time.

3. Stop blaming other people. Realize and accept that life isn’t [always] fair. And sometimes, we need to take responsibility for our own actions. Don’t make excuses.

4. Sing and dance whenever you get the opportunity. It is like food for the soul.

5. Admit it when you make a mistake. This can really do wonders for yourself, your relationships and your growth. Asking for forgiveness – even from yourself – has immense healing powers.

6. Do something nice and try not to get caught. Give clothes not worn to charity. Let someone cut ahead of you in line. Go an entire day without criticizing anyone. Be kinder than necessary or needed.

7. Listen more. Talk less.

8. Remember that the universe will keep putting you in similar situations until you’ve learnt “that” lesson. And once you have (learnt that lesson), then you’ll be ready to move on.

9. Find your purpose but remember that your purpose is not the thing you do – it is the thing that happens in others when you do what you do.

10. Every day, take a 30-minute walk. I cannot tell you how this helps my mental health. I call them my “menty-b” walks cause its like a tonic to stop mental breakdowns.

11. Strive for excellence, not perfection. And maybe some days trying your best is your excellence.

12. Be on time.

13. Don’t argue. It really isn’t worth it. Sometimes telling another person, they are right to protect your inner peace is the best thing you can do for yourself.

14. Know when to keep your mouth shut.

15. Be kind to unkind people. This one is particularly difficult but necessary. Remember, “hurt people, hurt people but healed people will heal people and that means the healed can help the hurt”.

16. But also learn when to throw toxic in the trash. There are some “hurt” people who are not ready for your healing and they will do everything in their power to continue hurting you. People can only meet you as far as they have met themselves.

17. Take time to be alone.

18. Cultivate good manners. Focus on being a good human. Be humble. Make your heart the most beautiful thing about you. Love louder.

19. Surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams, encourage your ideas, support your ambitions, and bring out the best in you.

20. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Stop overthinking things. Let stuff go. Teach that voice in your head to be nicer to you. And most importantly… remember that most of it is small stuff.

That’s it.

Okay. Love you. Bye.
