australia-votes-yes-to-same-sex-marriage

The world is celebrating with Australia today as the country shouted out ‘YES’ to legalize same sex marriage.

Australia didn’t say yes, Australia roared YES! Nearly two-thirds of Australians voted in support of gay marriage ensuring that the country’s Parliament will begin considering legalising same-sex weddings this year.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday that 62 percent of registered voters who responded in the unprecedented mail survey favored reform. The conservative government promised to allow a bill creating marriage equality to be considered in Parliament in the final two-week session that is due to end on Dec. 7.

Thousands of people gathered in parks across Australia waiting to hear the results of the vote, while the world celebrated with them when the news came through.

Many celebrities took to Twitter to celebrate the good news, such as Miley Cyrus, the partner of Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, who wrote, “Yes!!!!! Congrats Australia! Every step taken is one closer to World Peace! Love love love you! Proud to be Australian by association lol (laugh out loud).”
