Google has posted its top list of the most popular topics this year, and even though it’s a painful reminder of the lowlights of 2016… it somehow still finds love and hope amongst the despair.

Google released its annual “Year in Search” revealing all the most popular subjects the world searched for during the emotional rollercoaster known as the year 2016. Unsurprisingly, the collection of lists captures much of the tragedy, uncertainty, and loss from the year, but also the hope, love, and triumph that got us through it all.

The video shows news coverage of some of the world’s most shocking news stories — including Brexit, the election of Trump, the Orlando shooting and Syria — kicks Google’s “Year in Search” video for 2016. Yet as the film continues, it manages to find bright points and a message of hope among the lowlights and controversial happenings of this year.

In each piece of footage, the rectangular Google search box appears, to highlight words or symbolic images: like a “Refugees welcome” sign or the supermoon rising.

Included in the montage are Simone Biles at the Rio Olympics; the Chicago Cubs’ World Series win; Beyonce’s release of “Lemonade” and the deaths of Prince, Gene Wilder, David Bowie, Muhammad Ali, Nancy Reagan and Alan Rickman.

Yes, it’s insane to think that all of those things happened just this year, and that’s just two categories from the collection. You can check out the rest, top TV shows, top movies, top sporting events, and more, over at Google’s “Year in Search” page.

It also features the incredible speech that Stephen Colbert delivered after the Orlando shootings…

“Love does not despair. Love makes us strong. Love gives us the courage to act. Love gives us hope that change is possible. Loves allows us to change the script,”

And the opening Ellen Degeneres gave on her show adds to the most searched with review with incredibly powerful words:

“If you take away the labels, you’ll realize that we are far more alike than different.”

Trump’s handshake with Obama portrays the President-Elect in a more hopeful light, and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders also feature, as does Lin-Manuel Miranda’s emotional Tony’s speech where his love is love is love words might echo for an eternity.

The video ends with the words “Love is out there. Search on”. And we’re ready to take on the task…
