As the mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba receives many suggestions from the public that we never get to see but recently he shared one he got.
On Thursday, the 18th of October, the Joburg Mayor had a little fun on Twitter and shared one of the more fascinating suggestions he has received since being in office.
Not something we usually get from the mayor, people were happy to see a lighter, more fun side to the guy. He even made use of the cry-laughing face emoji
“In my whole time as the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, this is the most fascinating suggestion I’ve received” – Herman Mashaba, Executive Mayor
The email he received reads as follows:
“Dear Mr Mayor,
I trust this email finds you well. Congratulations on the fantastic work you are doing for the city. The country needs selfless leaders like you.
Considering the state capture inquiries is going ahead I’d like to suggest the city take over the Gupta compound and turn it into a museum. Considering the compound is next to the Zoo, and military museum, it’s well positioned to attract many visitors (both local & International). You can charge a small fee for visitors to view the place that had replaced the centre of Government.
In 20-50 years, future generations will still need to be reminded of what nearly happened in the Zuma era. We nearly lost the country to three Indian nationals. I am appealing to the city to buy the property and be a symbol and reminder to future…”
The mayor found this email fascinating and decided to share it with his Twitter followers. Many followers thought the idea was pretty great with some recommending the same be done with Nkandla.
The only recommendation the people of SA have for the mayor regarding this idea is that the government shouldn’t pay for the compound but rather confiscate it to repay the people of South Africa.
Would you visit a museum of this kind?
