Jonah Hill just told the Daily Mail (and all press who like to body shame) exactly how he feels!

Global (02 March 2021) – Jonah Hill was body-shamed by the mainstream media recently but the celebrity took to social media to put them back in their place while offering everyone else some words of encouragement too.

Body shaming is the act of deriding or mocking a person’s physical appearance. The scope of body shaming is wide and can include, although is not limited to fat-shaming, shaming for thinness, height-shaming, shaming of hairiness (or lack thereof), of hair-colour, body-shape, one’s muscularity (or lack thereof), shaming of looks (facial features), and in its broadest sense may even include shaming of tattoos and piercings or diseases that leave a physical mark such as psoriasis.

Extensive levels of body-shaming can have negative emotional effects, including a reduction in self-esteem and other issues such as eating disorders, anxiety, body dysmorphia and depression. Also, body shaming can lead to serious depression, especially when people feel their body can not meet social criteria.

But the 37-year-old actor posted a screenshot of a recent DailyMail article about him with his shirt off at the beach stating that “the media try to play me by printing photos like this but it can’t phase me anymore”.

This is what he wrote:

“I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid-30s even in front of family and friends. Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by the press and interviewers.

So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope.

I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself.

This isn’t a ‘good for me’ post. And it’s definitely not a ‘feel bad for me’ post.

It’s for the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect.

All my love.

Oh and Daily Mail, not even you can take that smile from my face ;)”
