Rugby players from the six nations have paid tribute to Joost van der Westhuizen, a South African hero and legendary icon.

 

Global – Tributes to the rugby legend were paid at all Championship matches in Round Two of 2017 with a minute’s applause in Cardiff, Rome and Paris marking the passing of the great South African scrum-half.

Players from Wales, England, Ireland, Italy, France and Scotland can all be seen paying tribute to the rugby legend.

Joost van der Westhuizen, a South African legend on the rugby field and an inspirational hero to many around the world, passed away on the 6 February in Johannesburg. He was 45.

The former Springbok died at his home after losing his battle with motor neurone disease, six years after being diagnosed with the illness.

The players and fans stood in silence before breaking into spontaneous applause in a touching mark of respect.
