If you had to write a letter to “the you” standing on the precipice of a new year, to prepare yourself for what you were about to get into, what would you say to yourself?

Western Cape, South Africa (01 January 2023) – Look at what we did. Look at what you did! It’s 2023 and you survived a year that was painful and hard and so incredibly challenging.

2022 was supposed to be the antithesis of a tragic two years after the proverbial rug was pulled from under us. Our worlds were tilted and we were all left a little unbalanced.

But this was supposed to be the year we were all supposed to see the other side of that and thrive.

And yet most of us barely survived.

If you would have told me about all the things I went through this year, pre-2022, Brenty would have never believed you. He would have laughed at you and told you to stop being ridiculous.

And that’s precisely the point.

There were good parts. And bad parts. There were days when we just didn’t want to. And days that we did. And yet we are still here. Somehow we got up and showed up, and we are still here.

If you had to write a letter to the you standing on the precipice of a new year to prepare yourself for what you were about to get into, what would you say to yourself? Would you point out the tragedy that is about to unfold? Or the hurt that is going to happen? Or the days that will make you the saddest?

Or would you gently speak to yourself with kindness and encouragement and remind yourself that not every day is a good day and that times it will be tough but you’ll get through it? Would you tell yourself that you’re going to get through it all and you’ll be able to stand on the other side of this year and say… look at what we did!

Look at what you did.

You made it. And you are still here. And you’re doing okay. And I so flipping proud of you.

Now let’s go do it all again bestie.

Okay. Love you. Bye.
