President Cyril Ramaphosa, a man with a fortune of his very own, has decided to donate half of his salary to the Nelson Mandela Foundation to aid various charity projects in SA
Before becoming president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has been an incredibly successful businessman. He has made a very good living and amassed a fortune of his own. This has led him to decide to rather donate a portion of his presidential salary to charitable efforts in South Africa.
The announcement was made yesterday and has been welcomed by the public. The fund will be called the Thuma Mina Nelson Mandela Fund which will be launched on Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday on 18 June.
“In memory of Madiba, in recognition of the great sacrifices he made and his tireless commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable, We are looking for people with skills, time and commitment to ‘lend a hand’ to community-based projects.”
“I have decided to contribute half my Presidential salary to a fund to be managed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The foundation will direct resources to the many small social projects scattered across the country.”
The president’s 2018 salary is R3.6 million, half of which will be placed into the new fund. According to The South African, this salary is substantially more than former president Jacob Zuma.
We are very excited to see what will become of the fund and how it will better the lives of South Africans in need. This is a great step to making a meaningful change for the country.
