Pigs Rescued

Pigs rescued from a farm going out of business experience a stress free life at their forever home, a Welsh farm. Their joy for the outdoors is infectious

Viva! is a vegan campaign organisation in the UK. Together with the Dean Farm Animal Sanctuary they work to save animals from cruel environments. Their motto is “Be Kind to All Kind”

Recently they worked on a project to get a sow (a female pig) and her six piglets moved to the Dean Farm Animal Sanctuary. The pigs rescued were officially free at the end of February.

“Viva! and Dean Farm Animal Sanctuary have rescued a sow and her six piglets from a pig farm going out of business. We are so delighted that we can offer them a life together in the beautiful Welsh countryside!”

“Hope Apple Blossom and her six piglets were rescued from slaughter by Viva! and Dean Farm Animal Sanctuary. Today they get to go outside and explore their forever home!”

Their reactions to being outside are the best thing you will see today! Running as fast and as far as possible, rooting through the mud and being able to roam freely around the grounds to visit the other animals. These were all new and exciting experiences for them.

Viva hosted a small competition for the public, allowing them to submit names for all 7 of the pigs. Mommy was named ‘Hope Apple Blossom’ and the babies were named ‘Jack Wigglinson, Lily Bubbles, Tom Rocket, Poppy Pig, Lucas Scamp and Mia Snuffles’

“They were so good we’ve named them twice! (We have decided to give each piggy a first and surname.) We decided on a theme of giving the piglets a first name that is in the top 20 for most popular names in the UK so that as many people as possible connect with the names (and hopefully the piglets) and giving second names that are more descriptive and well, piggy!”
