A South African has posted a status on social media that sums up South Africa at the Olympics perfectly…

South Africa have it tough in the media… with all the crime, poverty & corruption but right now our athletes are showing the world the other awesome side of who we are.

Barry Tuck, a Durbanite posted a status so perfect, that we can all relate too.

The people of South Africa make this beautiful country what it is and this short thought-provoking perspective is a reminder of the incredible people we get to share our place we call home.

The bigger nations may be winning the lion’s share of the medals, but it seems the South African Olympians are winning the hearts of the world.

Chad’s heroic swims as his parents battle cancer.

Luvo’s fight back from addiction to Olympic glory.

Wayde’s tribute to his 74 year old trainer – a great-grandmother no less.

You simply can’t script this.

As a nation we have our issues, but as a people we have heart, courage and fighting spirit.

I can’t wait to see what Caster does now to stick it to everyone who has made her road so rocky.

And South Africans across the board agree, commenting on the post and all its shares…

Collett Dawson reminded us “Absolutely! There’s also Lawrence Brittain who won a sliver medal in the rowing after coming back from having cancer a few years ago….”

Anne Wright agreed “So true so proud of them all and I can’t wait for Castor to show them what for!”

Noelani Wilson… “Well said”
