Tessa Dooms, a social justice activist, delivered a powerful speech using the metaphor that “South Africa is a car” to emphasize the importance of taking ownership and responsibility for the country’s path.

Pretoria, South Africa (21 June 2023) – South Africa is a car, and it’s our car! These were the powerful words spoken by Tessa Dooms at the recent Social Justice Assembly held in Pretoria earlier this year.

The event brought together passionate advocates and thought leaders who are driving positive change in South Africa, and Tessa Dooms, an esteemed social justice activist, delivered a captivating speech that left the audience inspired and motivated to create a better future for their country.

During her address, Dooms used the metaphor of a car to illustrate the ongoing journey of South Africa. She explained how, like a car, the country has its strengths and weaknesses, its successes and failures, but ultimately, it is up to the people to steer it in the right direction.

“South Africa is a car, and it’s our car! They are not driving their state to the ground, they’re driving our state to the ground… and we are not thinking about how we are going to stop that from happening.”

Dooms emphasized the importance of taking ownership and responsibility for the path South Africa is on, just as one would with a car.
