Winners of the 2017 Santam Child Art competition will have their artworks featured in the Santam centenary 2018 calendar. They are talented young artists!

The Santam Child Art project is one of South Africa’s oldest social investments projects and was started in 1963 to develop the notion that art is a valuable aspect of human development.

The project is aimed at promoting a love of art among youth. It provides them with an opportunity to express thoughts and ideas creatively. The project is recognised nationally and involves a national art competition.

The artworks by young artists are placed on an online exhibition, an art calendar, as well as in informal art centres at schools around the country.

Twelve winning artworks were selected this year to appear in the 2018 centenary calendar. This year, Santam received 4 219 nationwide entries. An additional 307 artworks have been selected to be featured in an online exhibition which will go live in the first quarter of 2018.

The art competition follows a theme each year and this year the children were instructed to use the theme ‘Bursting with colour’.

“This year was no exception. The quality of the artwork submitted was of such a high standard and it was truly difficult to select the 13 winning entries. We were excited to see the different interpretations of this theme across the age groups, their innocence and wild imaginations are always so inspirational.” – Tersia Mdunge, corporate social investment manager
