As our timelines become filled with snow photos and ‘someone left the fridge open in Joburg’ jokes, help came just in time for 200 people struggling to stay warm.
Benoni, South Africa (10 July, 2023) – It goes without saying that South Africa is feeling chilled and not in our usual way. Our timelines have all filled up with snow pics from the least expected places as sleet turns Joburg to ‘Snowburg’ and jokes are in their heyday as we all wonder who left the fridge open in the City of Gold. Luckily for those who experience the cold without much to protect them, an army of blankets has swooped in to ensure warmth.
The Manger Care Centre in Benoni shared their blanketed delight recently. Thanks to kind donations, 200 people they care for will have a warm blanket to see them through the chilly season.
“These blankets will serve as a tangible symbol of care and compassion, providing a source of comfort and protection from the harsh elements.”—Manger Care Centre.
Manger Care Centre supports abused woman and children, recovering addicts, the unemployed, physically challenged people and the elderly amongst others.
Beyond the blankets, a woman referred to as Joyce also ensured that winter won’t leave the Manger Care community without treats. Joyce rallied people to put groceries and goodies together for the centre, and thanks to her efforts even more joy will be felt in the cold days to come.
