A 21-year-old from Durban has successfully created his own Iron Man suit—a functioning prototype suit that we’re sure the Avengers will be giving him a call for!
Durban, South Africa (19 May 2024) — Since South Africa already has Iron Man’s house nestled in Clifton, it’s only fitting that we get our own Iron Man suit—and no, we’re not talking about a kitted-out ComicCon-ready costume.
21-year-old Keanu Rust from Durban has created his very own MK 1 The First Functional Prototype Suit—AKA, a functional replica of Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit.
What started as a pipe dream with cardboard became an aluminium reality for the young tinker who has his own business—Rust Industries. The suit is a massive accomplishment that represents years of work; having begun in way back in 2020.
Speaking on Lotus Fm, Keanu shared that he believes his Iron Man suit could have a good effect on military personnel and police officers in making their lives easier and safer. Ultimately, specialist military technology is something Keanu dreams to be apart of—not unlike the fictional Stark Industries from the Marvel Universe.
Keanu shares that he has been designing, sculpting and creating since he was in primary school—with a special affinity for Marvel character’s props (he has also created a Black Panther helmet and Captain America’s compass!).
The Iron Man suit is his latest and greatest creation, and one that proves once again the innovative efficacy and determination of young South Africans.
