Elton’s small business got a well-deserved break after meeting Lisa, who was inspired by the radiance and hope given off by the inspiring young man.
Muizenberg, South Africa (12 August 2021) – Lisa Rouhana had just finished a surf at Muizenberg Beach when she met Elton, a young man passionate about starting his own business. Lisa and Elton got chatting when she noticed he was selling handmade bags.
The bags were vibrant and immediatly caught Lisa’s eye, that and Elton’s radiant smile. Lisa learned that Elton has had a hard life; he was abandoned as a baby and lost his legs when he was pushed off a train at the age of 21.
He lives at the Haven Night Shelter in Retreat but hopes to work his way up in the world so he can have his own business and home someday. Lisa decided to support his dream and bought one of his handmade bags.
“After buying a bag from him at muizies I went to meet my mom at Prashad and Theresa the owner was like “wow I love your bag”
I told her the story and she said she wants to stock them”
Lisa was so excited to share the news with Elton. She and her son Rayne gave him a call and offered to go pick him up to meet with Theresa, the owner of Prashad. Elton was overjoyed!
When they arrived at the Haven Night Shelter, they realised they would need to manoeuvre Elton’s wheelchair into the car. Lisa explained that Elton was filled with solutions. Once loaded up, they set off to have a meal at Prashad.
Lisa also managed to get a few orders for Elton, thanks to a Facebook post she had shared about meeting him. Once they had their exciting meeting, Lisa and Rayne took him to get the supplies needed to fulfil the orders.
“We took him to town to kwaailappies and ships to get wool, zips, etc…
He had just received his grant and was adamant we didn’t pay for anything as it’s his business and he has the money ….
Wow wow wow. Was such a special day!”
