The Christmas Angel wanted to help the needy but did not want any recognition. Since then, many South Africans had started receiving anonymous food vouchers via text messages for thousands of rands.
Johannesburg, South Africa (12 December 2020) – A South African who wishes to stay anonymous, is donating thousands of rands in food vouchers to people in need.
260 days of lockdown. 260 days of not earning a salary. 260 days of also not being helped by the government.
This is the tragic reality that many are facing in South Africa right now. Hunger and unemployment are soaring, and our beautiful country is facing a national crisis that we may never recover from; extreme poverty that we have never seen before. Our unemployment rate was shocking before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, but that number has almost doubled since the 26 March 2020. It has been estimated that there are over 10 million citizens who are actively looking for a job but can’t find one right now. South Africa has also been ranked as the world’s most miserable economy after Venezuela and Argentina.
This lockdown can make us feel like our emotions are all over the place and what is happening in the world can start to feel very overwhelming. But we must not forget that there is always hope and there are always good people trying to help where they can.
Good Things Guy was contacted by an avid reader who told us that a Christmas Angel was sending anonymous food vouchers to those in need this festive season.
The Christmas Angel wanted to help the needy but did not want any recognition. Since then, many South Africans had started receiving anonymous food vouchers via text messages for thousands of rands.
We would like to take a moment to thank this Christmas Angel. We just want them to know that we appreciate the kind gift that they have given this year.
We might not be able to help with unemployment or the mass poverty, but its stories like these that remind us that kindness does exist and that there are still many good people in the world.
