Two girls, rescued from a terrifying ordeal, have led to the discovery and rescue of two more teenage girls. A dedicated team from the Rehoming Collective not only freed the girls but also reunited them with their heartbroken mother, who had been searching for them for a month. Thanks to the swift actions and compassion of South Africans, this family can now embark on the journey of healing.

Cape Town, South Africa (02 December 2024) – Two weeks ago, two abducted girls were rescued from a flat in Bellville and sent back home to Pretoria.

In an unexpected discovery, during an emotional session with a social worker who has been assisting the girls and their families in adjusting to their new reality, the girls revealed that another two girls were being held in a field in Bellville, near the station, in a “cookie” (shack).

Carlos Mesquita of the Rehoming Collective NPC received a call from the social worker, learning that a second pair of girls that were being held captive; they had given their mothers’ phone numbers to the rescued girls before they were moved from the flat.

“We decided to go to the approximate area they spoke of but couldn’t see any structures. They gave more information and at around 19h00, we found a hidden structure.

“Lying inside were two girls. They were tied to one another with handcuffs at the wrists and at the ankles and then to a heavy-duty tent peg hammered deep into the ground. Most of us couldn’t help but get emotional at the sight,” discloses Carlos on the shocking discovery.

The rescue team managed to free the girls and soon took them to the Dignity House in Maitland. The mother, who had reported the girls missing in Jeffreys Bay over a month ago, was contacted and, as to be expected, was overcome with shock.

The girls are 13 and 14 years old, and the Rehoming Collective has worked tirelessly to reunite them with their mother. Their efforts have been exacting, involving visits to the Bellville Police Station, the hospital, and the location where the girls were found.

“We needed the mother to come to Cape Town. We didn’t have the funds to buy her a ticket to Cape Town. We took a chance and called Intercape promising to pay for a return trip at the Cape Town station before the bus arrived in Cape Town,” says Carlos.

The mom left Jeffreys Bay on an Intercape bus and soon arrived in Cape Town.

“This whole situation with children getting kidnapped from near their homes (in this case Jeffreys Bay) and then being taken across borders to be used and abused and sold has become a nightmare and my experience has been that our law enforcement agencies are tending to blame the girls. But they can’t with these two.

“They were grabbed after school in Jeffreys Bay and ended up in a hidden hokkie in a deserted field in Bellville. It’s horrific to listen to their story. Be safe and be careful out there,” explains Carols.

In what is unfolding to be a happy ending to a very traumatic experience, Carlos told Good Things Guy that enough money for bus tickets has finally been raised to ensure the mother and her daughters are able to return back home soon.

Now, funds are being raised for tickets for two community engagement offices to accompany the family to ensure measures are in place to make their trip back home a safe one.
