Adam Jacobs, a Cape Town resident, is on an extraordinary two-year cycling journey across Africa, all for a cause close to his heart – to raise funds for Waves for Change’s surf therapy programmes.

West Usambara Mountains, Tanzania (04 February 2025) – It takes a cause truly close to a man’s heart for him to leave the comforts and familiarity of his life behind to cycle across Africa with nothing but bare essentials and his phone to embark on a two-year charity fundraising initiative.

Leaving his bicycle tyre threads throughout the vast sands of African soil as he looks to support Waves for Change’s surf therapy programmes is thrillseeker Adam Jacobs from Cape Town.

Adam left the Mother City on 6 July 2024 on a two-wheeled, two-year adventure to raise R100,000 for Waves for Change.

“The ride is a testament to the mental health battles that many face in this day and age. It is all about facing one’s fears, overcoming hardships, learning to appreciate the smaller things in life and realizing you are never alone in this world,” Adam shares on his site.

He recently made it to the home of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania and is currently making his way through the West Usambara Mountains!

Waves for Change confirmed that due to civil unrest in Mozambique, Adam had to detour back into South Africa and fly into Tanzania to continue his journey.

“The last few days I’ve been way above the clouds. It’s truly amazing just how much you get to see, slowing pedalling from village to village,” Adam shares in his most recent Instagram post.

His footage showcases his thrilling adventure as he soaks in all the rich Tanzanian culture and views, hinting that he doesn’t know when exactly he’ll be back. But the cause behind the adventure continues, having raised R16,000 so far!
