Hermanus, South Africa – ADT armed response office Zolile Hoyi braved a storm in Cape Town to assist an older woman who was attempting to save a rundown duiker.

Lilani Radley witnessed Hoyi’s rescue from her car. She said it was freezing cold outside and raining, neither of which deterred him from saving the animal.

The older woman had spotted the Duiker which was said to have been hit by a car. The Duiker then fell down into a 3-metre deep ditch. It was down there that Hoyi climbed. He picked up the injured animal and climbed back out the trench with a strong effort.

Once Hoyi was out of the ditch, a Good Samaritan in a bakkie stopped and offered to drive the Duiker. Three incredible people stopped and made an effort to save the small animal from suffering alone in the cold. Thanks to their dedication, the tiny Duiker can hopefully recover after the ordeal.

“Last night in the freezing cold and rain I saw a car from ADT and an old lady next to the road at Camphill rd. Turns out someone hit a little duiker and left the poor thing there. It managed to fall into a 3m deep ditch. This guy climbed down the ditch to pick up the duiker and climbed all the way up with it in his arms. Someone stopped with there bakkie and took it to a local vet. Great to see people who still care out there!” – Lilani Radley

We have not received an update on the Duiker so if you have heard anything, let us know in the comment section. Thank you to everyone that went above and beyond to save a life!
