Mr Martin Ledwaba has been at Jeppe High School for Boys for the last 50 years, and he is finally retiring, so the school is working to honour him.
Johannesburg, South Africa (12 March 2021) – Mr Martin Ledwaba has been at Jeppe High School for Boys for the last 50 years. As a multi-generational figure at the school, he is well-loved by the students as well as parents and grandparents who were previous students at the school. He is the longest-serving staff member, having been at the school since the 1970s.
Last year the school celebrated Mr Ledwaba’s 80th birthday as well as him earning his teaching qualification after 40 years of working towards his education. He went from lab assistant to qualified and was praised by the Old-Boys and parents alike.
The school is now working on giving Mr Ledwaba a big send-off and are calling on “old-boys” to help them make a meaningful contribution.
The announcement was made yesterday about Mr Ledwaba’s retirement, and already the Facebook post has been flooded with well-wishes and congratulations for his retirement.
He has been referred to as an icon and an integral part of the history of the school. Many have said his smile was infectious, and his kindness exuded him when helping others.
“Wishing you a well-deserved rest Mr. Ledwaba, thank you for being such a sterling example of both honour and respect to our young men. Blessings and good health to you sir.” – Tara Lee Theron
“One of the most kind and respectable men I’ve had the privilege to meet. The lessons he taught cannot be learnt in a classroom. All the best, sir!” – Sebastian de Beer
“Ah Mr Ledwaba, we are going to miss your smile and warm greetings but you so deserve some rest! You were there when my hubby was a Jeppe boy and you’ve been there to see all four of our boys join the Jeppe family. You will be missed and Jeppe will not be the same without you. Thank you for all your years of service!” – Caren Mac Kiaser
