Koen Rombouts has been running every Sunday, raising money for 100 families living in Alexandra Township; so far he has raised R60,000 and counting!
South Africa (15 May 2020) – Koen Rombouts wanted to show that actions speak louder than words. When the lockdown was extended, Koen set the goal of running a half marathon to raise money for 100 families living in Alexandra, a township in Johannesburg.
He started his half-marathon on Sunday, the 26th of April. The event was streamed on social media, and the donations started flooding in. He ran a total of 21kms in his back garden and around the house.
Koen decided to donate the funds to Rays of Hope for their #Hope4Alex campaign. For 29 years Rays of Hope, a non-profit company (NPC) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) has been partnering for lasting change with the community of Alexandra, on the border of Sandton. The NPC works with orphaned and vulnerable children; education and work readiness.
The money raised by Koen can help hundreds of families. He continued to run and has now raised over R60,000 for 100 families.
Koen is now running every Sunday, adding an additional 1km each time. Last weekend he ran 25kms in total. This coming weekend even more!
He won’t give up until he has raised enough to make an incredible difference.
“Your support has raised R60,260 for Rays of Hope. With this amount, 71 families in Alex will receive a food hamper. A big thank you to everyone who has donated towards this great cause. I would love to reach 100 families”
