Alfred, a dedicated street number painter and founder of Universal Sign Writers, embodies resilience and community empowerment as he turns reflective numbers into symbols of safety, achieves his dream home, and strives to provide opportunities for local youth in South Africa.
Johannesburg, South Africa (21 August 2023) – In a world filled with stories that often highlight the challenges we face, it’s refreshing to stumble upon ones that remind us of the strength of the human spirit and the power of determination. Alfred, a man of perseverance and ambition, embodies these qualities and more.
A few years ago, Jeeten Fakir shared Alfred’s story, and today, Good Things Guy readers have reached out to us, eager to celebrate the indomitable spirit of this extraordinary individual.
Alfred, a man who walks the path of honesty and hard work, has captured the hearts of many. Jeeten Fakir first encountered Alfred during one of his door-to-door excursions. Alfred’s aim was simple yet impactful – to earn an honest living by offering to paint street numbers on pavements. While some might overlook this task’s significance, Jeeten recognized the essential role that these reflective street numbers could play in ensuring the safety and well-being of his community.
Recognizing the importance of Alfred’s work, Jeeten decided to support his endeavour. He allowed Alfred to paint his street number, not just for the sake of improved visibility but as a testament to the potential for positive change that one individual can bring about.
“I gave him the go-ahead to paint my street number on my pavement. Yes, I have my street number on my home, which is easily visible during the day… but not really at night. The benefit – the fact that, in the event of an emergency, my home will be easily identifiable, day or night. The police, ambulance, security company or any other help will be able to see my street number because of the reflective safety paint he uses. Simple yet effective in my view.” Jeeten wrote in a Facebook post.
Alfred’s journey isn’t limited to his door-to-door initiative; it extends to his business, Universal Sign Writers. With an impressive 22 years in the industry, Alfred has been leaving his mark, quite literally, through road markings for complexes, signs on dustbins, house and complex paintings, and advertising boards. His work showcases his commitment to enhancing the aesthetics and functionality of his community’s surroundings.
For many, owning a home is a lifelong dream, a symbol of stability and security. Alfred’s story takes a poignant turn as he shares the fulfilment of this very dream. Years of tireless effort have borne fruit, allowing him to build a home for his family in Thokoza Park. The achievement is a testament to Alfred’s resilience and the unwavering determination that fueled his journey. Alfred’s aspirations extend beyond personal achievements. His desire to grow his business and provide opportunities for the youth in his community exemplifies his generous spirit. By expanding his enterprise and employing local youth, Alfred aims to create a ripple effect of positive change, not just in his family’s life but in the lives of those around him.
Alfred’s story resonates not only as a tale of personal success but as an embodiment of the potential for collective growth and upliftment. As Jeeten Fakir rightly points out, it’s individuals like Alfred who exemplify the values we should strive for – hard work, determination, and a commitment to making a difference.
Alfred, the reflective street number painter turned symbol of hope, reminds us that even the simplest of actions can have profound effects. In a world where negativity can easily overshadow positivity, stories like Alfred’s shine as beacons of light, guiding us towards a better tomorrow.
