Volunteers and communities didn’t just keep their promise to feed Cape Town’s hungriest over the festive season. They outdid themselves. Put a little more hope in the Hope Exchange and served their city.
Cape Town, South Africa (25 January 2024) — The #Feed5000 initiative promised to make sure that Cape Town’s hungriest would not go without over the festive season. Filling meals would be served. Mouths would be fed. Kindness would go around. In a big victory for bigger promises, we’re overjoyed to report that this initiative didn’t just meet expectations, but exceeded them!
Working round the clock during the festive season is a mammoth task all its own. Aiming to make sure 12,000 meals are served is another. But, the Hope Exchange, Ladels of Love and many volunteers can dust their aprons off because the mission has been more than accomplished. In total, 12,000 meals were not served, 14,806 were. That’s almost 3000 meals more than they aimed for.
This follows a very successful Christmas Day for the Hope Exchange, Ladles of Love and 25 volunteers where 687 people got a delicious meal of roasted chicken, salads and cake, as well as something sweet to take home.
The #5000 campaign ran from 14 December to 14 January. It served many street occupants and destitute people of all ages, but also, those serving the food who got a different kind of soul food in the form of gratitude.
Although the festive initiative has come to an end, there’s always an opportunity to do good. You can contribute to the Hope Exchange’s food bill either through a food donation or funding here.
