Inspector Luke and Field Officer Delani from the Amanzimtoti SPCA rescued a puppy from a very high bridge after the flooding – they spent days trying to save her.
Amanzimtoti, South Africa (20 April 2022) – Inspector Luke and Field Officer Delani from the Amanzimtoti SPCA spent days trying to coax a terrified puppy from a very tricky spot after the flooding. The puppy was terrified but they never gave up!
It is speculated that the puppy was washed away during the flooding and due to high floodwaters, was able to find shelter in the join of a concrete bridge. Once water levels lowered, she became trapped up a very high bridge.
Thankfully, a member of the public spotted her and alerted the authorities. Inspector Luke and Field Officer Delani along with the local fire department went to the scene and were blown away by how high up she was.
“A concerned member of the public alerted us on Thursday last week of a puppy stuck on the SAB bridge in Prospecton. She has obviously been a victim of the floods and ended up on the bridge. With the help of the fire department we could not save the puppy, she kept running away deeper into the confines of the bridge.
Luke and Delani left food and decided to go every day until they managed to save her by making a “puppy catcher” with our existing equipment. Never giving up on any animal in need is what our SPCA work is all about. We have now called this precious girl Storm.”
Storm is being cared for by the SPCA team but she has a road of recovery ahead of her.
“She’s got a bit of a road to recovery though, as she took in a lot of water during her terrible ordeal. We are treating her bad chest. We are just so grateful that Luke and Delani managed to save her!”
You can support Storm or find out about adoptions via the Facebook page here. The SPCA was badly damaged by the flooding and then got burgled to top it all off! The team is asking if anyone can assist, to do so using the details below. If you want to help in other ways, reach out via the Facebook page too.
“We just want to thank our wonderful community for all the assistance you have given us so far.
If you would like to help towards little Storm’s recovery, or towards us getting back on our feet, it would really mean a lot to us. We’re really battling right now. We are also desperate for donations of pet food, as we lost a lot in the flood.
