Angela Yeung – an incredibly passionate and giving South African – has just been named a finalist for Women of Stature Awards!
Johannesburg, South Africa (17 February 2020) – South African jewellery designer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Angela Yeung, has been named a finalist for the upcoming 6th annual Woman of Stature Awards. Eighty of South Africa’s most prominent women will be competing for twelve awards in various categories.
This is the first time that the charity awards gala will be hosted by the newly-formed Woman of Stature Foundation, dedicated to empowering and inspiring women from all walks of life.
Yeung, Managing Director of Impilo Collection, has been a previous winner of the AngloGold Ashanti Design competition, for her gold headpiece design entitled Connect. She has been a valuable contributor to charities which include 67 Blankets for Mandela, FeedSA, the Hong Ning Chinese Aged Home, and she was selected by the Chinese Embassy to represent SA at the “Eminent Youth Overseas Chinese 2017.”
But one particular cause that has cemented itself in Yeung’s heart has been the Caring4Girls Foundation, which provides sanitary towels for young girls in need.
“I first joined the Trek4Mandela expedition to climb Kilimanjaro to honour Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday,” explained Yeung to Good Things Guy. “Because of the incredible people who believed in me, I managed to raise R150k to provide sanitary towels for young girls in need.”
Yeung made the trek along with a delegation, led by SA former public protector Thuli Madonsela.
“Despite the incredible difficulty of my first climb, and the pain and harrowing temperatures, I knew at that moment that I would climb again with Professor Madonsela for these girls,” explained Yeung.
“I designed a special jewellery piece called the Kilimanjaro Star, reflecting the colours and textures of Mt. Kilimanjaro.”
She continued, “I know that my journey through life has been about far more than just me. I’ve seen women climbing difficult mountains in their lives daily, and it motivates me to contribute further to help women and abused youth conquer their own mountains.”
The gala dinner and awards ceremony will take place on 8 March 2020, at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways, Johannesburg.
