Blessing Gapa is a talented woodcarver, making unique wooden sculptures but his eyes are failing him; his employer has had some of his work beautifully painted and is auctioning it off to fix Blessing’s eyes.

South Africa (08 March 2023) – Noush Projects have taken on Blessing Gapa’s cause after hearing about his failing eyes. The talented woodworker is well-known for his intricate wood sculptures. A collaboration between Noush and Michael Chandler sees some of Blessing’s work going up for auction, with the proceeds to help with treatment for his eyes.

The wooden sculptures are a once-off creation and painter Michael Chandler has given each, a splash of colour. These will then be auctioned off individually.

The Noush team have already taken several steps towards assisting Blessing with his eyes, now they need to cover the costs of the treatment he needs to preserve his sight. They shared his backstory on the post announcing the auction.

“Many of you might know that Blessing has been struggling massively with his eyesight. To the point that he were he is sometimes unable to carve.

Through an incredibly supportive client who works at the Centurion Eye Hospital in Pretoria together with Dr Jacquese Potgieter, a highly respected ophthalmologist, Blessing was invited for a “Fight-for-Sight” assessment.

We made arrangements to get Blessing to Pretoria just before Christmas.

So far the outcome has been a little inconclusive, as it seems that the problem is nerve-related. Not something that is that easily fixable. But he has been given new medication which seems to be helping. Thankfully he is feeling able to start carving again, but not at the same speed as before.

The next step is for Blessing to get a follow-up brain scan back in Durban and some new special spectacles.

There have been several incredibly compassionate people who have already supported Blessing by making donation. You are more than welcome to support in this way too. DM for details.

We feel very Blessed with our incredible community of followers”

The auction is currently underway with final bids for the pieces to be placed by Friday the 10th of March at 5 pm CET/ 6 pm ZA time. You can bid on the female sculpture here and the male sculpture here.
