Siboniso’s story moved thousands of people into action, a crowdfund raised over R40,000 for his schooling and a special needs school will be taking him in.
Siboniso wakes up every morning puts on his school uniform, picks up his bag and walks over to a tree outside his home… He is Autistic so it’s his only option… until now that is.
We shared his story early yesterday morning after seeing a plea to raise funds for his education on The Angel Network. They had created a crowdfund on BackaBuddy on the 31st of October and had only raised R11,000 towards his schooling. After publishing his story you, our phenomenal readers, made the story go viral and as of the time of writing this, the crowdfunding has raised R50,882.42.
On an even better note, ROOTS Remedial Learning Initiative has confirmed with us that they will be taking in Siboniso, he is starting with them on Monday pro-bono. The school specializes in Autistic Spectrum Disorders and will be able to help him learn and grow as he has always dreamed of doing. He won’t have to pretend he is at school anymore.
‘Roots is pending registration as a Non-Profit Organisation and will operate as a centre that will accommodate learners who do not meet the requirements for other special needs or remedial schools yet still require daily educational stimulation.
Here at Roots we aim to offer a firm foundation for not only children but their families too, making their experience one of balance and growth while learning in harmony.’
The money raised on the crowdfunding campaign will be used to offer transport for him to get to school and help buy any school supplies he may need. The leftover funds will be placed in a trust that is managed by the Angel Network.
You can still contribute towards the fund if you would like, as mentioned above, all monies will be kept in trust for him.
