A new father, excited about the birth of his first child, was left in tears when he realised the lockdown meant he couldn’t buy baby clothes or blankets.
Johannesburg, South Africa (07 April 2020) – While the lockdown is working, it is causing a few problems. Essentials are the only thing allowed to be sold by stores which became an inconvenience for new dad Joseph.
Newborn baby clothing isn’t classed as an essential and not every parent is able to hoard a stash before the baby is born. New father Joseph, beaming with pride at the birth of his little blessing, rushed off to the mall to buy items.
When he arrived, his excitement was quickly dashed. Joseph realised he couldn’t buy any baby clothes. He stood there in tears, devastated. Staff at the Pick ‘n Pay noticed his distress and when they hear his story, rallied to help him. Together they were able to collect some baby clothing from their homes as well as blankets.
The Irene Village Mall shared the heartwarming story on their Facebook and have committed to working with Pick ‘n Pay to provide Joseph with vouchers to use when the lockdown is over. For now, he has a few things to carry him through the last nine days of lockdown.
“We are so grateful to team Pick ‘n Pay Irene Village Mall. When proud father Joseph arrived at the mall for baby clothes for newborn baby Blessing, he broke down in tears unable to purchase clothing or a baby blanket as a result of lockdown. Not only did the team come together for some essentials but they all undertook to donate baby clothing to Joseph in his time of need from their own homes.
Thanks so much to everyone from PnP Irene Village Mall. We will in partnership with Pick ‘n Pay provide Joseph with vouchers for clothing post lockdown.”
The people working at the Pick ‘n Pay have restored our faith in humanity. They didn’t know Joseph, but they rallied to support him anyway. We are left with a lump in our throats.
