Thandi House Baby Home staff were woken by the police who had two sickly children in their custody; they were taken in and needed some extra tender care. Thandi House is asking the public for help.

Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (18 March 2021) – Child abuse and abandonment is an awful reality in South Africa. While it is devastating to hear the stories, organisations like Thandi House Baby Home works tirelessly to do good by these hurt children.

Just two weeks ago, the staff at the Thandi House Baby Home were woken up by the police that has rescued two children and needed to place them in a safe space. The children had been locked in their house and left for three days. It was a grim discovery by the police.

The children, ages 3-years-old and 8-years-old, were immediately taken into the care of the Thandi House Baby Home. They were assessed, and the 3-year-old was in terrible shape.

“The little 3-year-old has a severe skin infection on his arms and legs caused by insect bites that have become infected. One of the treatments was to treat him with Bactroban and dressing it every day and he is recovering well, however, our supply is running out. He also has horrible oral thrush, which we are treating with Nystatin Oral. The children are also riddled with Tape and Hookworm.”

As they run a home filled with other children, they now need to deworm all 24 children at the home to prevent the spread of the worm to anyone else. What the organisation needs now is help with all the medical care for the two children as well as their other children.

Aside from medical care, the two children have very little in the way of clothing. Thandi House Baby Home is appealing to the public for clothing. They appreciate all donations and will gladly accept secondhand items for the children.

“We are appealing for assistance with medical supplies. We would like to deworm them, but to do so we also need to deworm all the children (best practice). To do this we will need 24 treatments of de-wormer. We are also needing more supplies for the little boy – Bandages, Bactroban, Nystatin Oral Suspension, and night nappies

We are also appealing for 3-4-year-old and 8-9-year-old boy’s clothing – We accept clothing in any condition as we are just grateful to clothe our children. If you can assist with any of these needs, we would be very grateful.
Please call Mark on 061 467 6612 (if the call goes to voice mail please attempt to make contact via WhatsApp as we are having network issues).

Thank you so much to all who make every day a possibility at Thandi House as we care for these special children so dear to our heart.”

We all have the power to change these stories, to turn the darkest parts into stories filled with hope and light. If you are able to assist the organisation, you can do so, as explained above. You can also follow the organisation via Facebook here.
