An expecting mother was surprised by a swift labour and ended up giving birth on the sidewalk; thankfully, her community was there to lend a helping hand.
Rooihuiskraal, South Africa (27 May 2022) – The Community Emergency Response Team SA (CERT-SA) rushed to help a woman who had gone into labour while walking in Rooihuiskraal. They assisted in delivering a healthy baby boy.
CERT is a non-profit and public beneficiary organisation that provides emergency response to people in need, free of charge.
The team received a call that a woman had gone into labour and required assistance. They rushed to the scene and aided in delivering her baby boy.
“On Wednesday afternoon at around 15:25 pm, CERT responded to a call for assistance in Rooihuiskraal where a woman in her 30’s had gone into labour, while walking in the street.
On arrival we found the patient laying on the sidewalk outside of a residential home and it was quickly established that she was in active labour.
Members of the local community police forum were already in attendance and a female member comforted the patient.
After a short time the patient gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Initially the baby was a little pale and was not crying but after some stimulation and supplemental oxygen, he became more active and his colour improved.
Both mom and baby where transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition, by Gauteng Emergency Medical Services Ambulance.”
The team were overjoyed to have played such a vital role in the baby’s birth and that both baby and mom were in good health once handed over to the relevant medical teams.
