Jan Steyn’s faith in humanity was restored when he accidentally lost his bag containing all his most valuable possessions. He was cycling to work when the bag slipped from his bike and landed in the road.

Peter, a kindhearted man saw the incident and tried to flag Jan down. Jan didn’t see him and kept on his way. Peter stopped and picked up the bag. He placed it inside his truck and set off to his own job. Jan shared the series of events after that gutwrenching loss on Facebook.

“On Friday afternoon I left work on my bike. Due to my mistake, I lost my bag while riding. This man, Peter, witnessed it. He flashed lights but I did not notice. Then he stopped, picked up my bag and continued driving his truck to his workplace.”

When Jan got to the office, he realised his bag was gone. His heart froze and he quickly called his cellphone to see if it was still switched on.

“Later I realised that my bag is gone. Inside this bag was my wallet with about R600, my cellphone, my ID, my passport, my favourite pens, all my credit and debit cards; in short, my whole life!!”

Peter answered the call and calmed Jan, telling him the bag and all its contents were safe. He gave Peter all his information and promised to keep the bag safe for him.

“When I phoned my cellphone, Peter immediately picked up. Before anything he gave me his personal cell number, then his name and then assured me that he will look after my bag.”

Peter then took the bag home and the next morning, drove all the way to Benoni to reunite the bag with Jan. Jan was incredibly grateful for the effort Peter went through to help out. He shared an image of Peter along with a heartfelt message of thanks for his honour and integrity.

“This morning he went through the effort of travelling to Benoni where I met him. He asked me to check and verify that all is in place! I did not because I knew it is!! What a man! What integrity! What honesty! What an example to mankind!!

Thank you, Peter. Once again! You are an example a good person! A Christian! A child of God!!!”
