Celebs are just regular people with really cool jobs who sometimes do extraordinary things. Benedict Cumberbatch aka Marvel’s Doctor Strange recently saved a cyclist from being attacked by a gang of men.

Playing a hero on screen has helped Benedict Cumberbatch embrace the role offscreen too. He has recently been hailed a real-life hero for helping to save a delivery man from being attacked on the streets of London.

While travelling along in his Uber, Benedict came across a scene all too real. A Deliveroo rider was in the process of making a delivery when he was attacked by four men. As he was taking his helmet off, he was struck over the head with a glass bottle. Quick to action, Benedict sprung from his Uber and went to save the man.

His Uber driver, Manuel Dias, jumped out of the car and aided as a faithful sidekick. The pair managed to calm the situation and protect the delivery guy from any more harm. In an interview with the Sun, Dias explained how the situation unfolded.

“He stood there instructing them in the street, shouting, ‘Leave him alone’. It was only then I recognized Benedict,”

“The cyclist was lucky, Benedict’s a superhero.”

“I had hold of one lad and Benedict another. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest,”

“They tried to hit him but he defended himself and pushed them away. He wasn’t injured. Then I think they also recognized it was Benedict and ran away.”

Dias confirmed that Benedict checked the delivery guy over and gave him a hug before heading back to the Uber. The delivery company got wind of the situation and tweeted a heartfelt thanks to the star a little while later.

“Thank you, Benedict Cumberbatch, for your brave actions. Deliveroo riders are heroes – their safety is our priority and any violence against them is totally unacceptable. So on behalf of everyone at Deliveroo: thank you.”
