When Working on Fire’s Firefighters aren’t putting out fires or helping Canada, they activate their green thumbs to grow gardens of goodness!

Western Cape, South Africa (23 August 2023)—When Working on Fire’s firefighters aren’t saving lives or sharing joy and protective efforts where they’re most needed, many wear another hat of wholesomeness by growing community gardens.

In places like Vrolijkheid, Working On Fire teams can be spotted planting and harvesting veggies like sweet potatoes to give back to organisations in the larger Robertson area. This is part of a pilot project that will see more fresh produce grow!

In Swellendam, the WOF team embarked on another gardening mission by relocating VRT Pitt Primary School’s veggie garden to a new, favourable spot.

These efforts that serve communities beyond protection are wholesomely approved, and we can’t wait to see where the next gardens pop up in South Africa.

Meanwhile, WOF isn’t done putting out fires in Canada with more local firefighters set to lend their efforts to help Canada’s worst wildfire season ever.

The firefighters will travel to Canada on Friday and will constitute the fourth team of WOF firefighters with 200 members as the third team returns.
