A small act of kindness has sparked an incredible friendship between a coffee shop owner and a gardener but also inspired others with the story.

Edward Mbughi, a gardener from Norwood in Johannesburg, had his only form of transport stolen recently.

Charl Smit, the owner of a local coffee shop called Loof Coffee heard about the incident and decided to help Mbughi with a small act of kindness.

“I found out that Edward, who got a brand new bike for Christmas, had his bicycle stolen and I felt that I needed to do something,” said Smit.

“We live in a world where people don’t help each other very much. We all live for ourselves… I just went down to Sportsman’s Warehouse and bought him a new bicycle.”

Mbughi was completely distraught when he found out that his bike had been stolen as he did not know how he would now get around.

But thankfully Smit stepped in and handed Mbughi a brand-new bicycle, wanting nothing in return.

“I’m very happy about my new bicycle. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to make it to work and earn money. I’m completely grateful for this kind act,” said Mbughi.

Smit added that people should look out for each other more and take a moment to do something small for each other, rather than living in our own worlds.
