Beeping Easter eggs are the best way for the blind and visually impaired to be included in Easter egg hunts. A bomb squad decided to make them for the local kids in Albuquerque, USA.
Albuquerque, USA (18 April 2017) – Easter egg hunts are usually very visual, most children run through fields and trees looking in every little place to spot the brightly coloured Easter eggs. Naturally, this visual activity isn’t practical for the blind and visually impaired children of the world.
That is why beeping Easter eggs were invented by dad and bomb expert David Hyche as a solution to his daughter’s request to join the hunt. The eggs have also come in handy in everyday teachings.
“Teachers for the blind have also used the eggs year-round to teach location skills. I noticed early on that my daughter had trouble finding items she dropped or lost. The eggs teach the kids to search in three dimensions, not just on the floor,” David explained.
A team of about 25 specialised men got together to build the eggs for an event dedicated to their local blind and visually impaired children. The Air Force, the Army and the Albuquerque Police Department’s bomb squads used their knowledge of electronics to build the beeping eggs. They built tiny, intricate circuit boards to place inside a total of 75 eggs.
“We tried to build an assembly line, and it’s going pretty well,” said Air Force Tech Sgt. John Johnson. “We’re building some pretty in-depth circuits.”
This isn’t the first time we have reported on this clever idea. Last year, we shared a story of a dad who wanted his daughter to experience the joy and excitement of an Easter egg hunt, too, so he invented the beeping Easter eggs! Watch the video below!
