The story of the Gwala brothers… also known as “The God Sent Boys”!

Dogs

Two animal-loving brothers from Kwangcolosi in KwaZulu-Natal ran over 5km to try and catch the KZN Valley Dogs who feed animals in need every Sunday.

Alex and his brother Uvruj joined the KZN Valley Dogs feeding scheme about a year after the organisation was launched. They desperately wanted to make a difference.

They had heard from their friends at school about a group of people who came every Sunday to feed the local dogs and so they set out on one of the Sunday’s with a mission to find the KZN Valley Dogs. They ran approximately 5kms from their house to one of the feeding stops.

They approached Mark, one of the organisers and begged him to go with them to a house where they had seen many starving dogs.

“This was way off our normal route and in a completely different direction, which is what Mark explained to them. Refusing point blank to take no for an answer Alex tugged on Marks’ arm and told him “Please You have to come these dogs are dying”… so off we went driving about 6kms up a very steep rural dirt road to a compound belonging to an old man by the name of Mr Sithole.”

Mr Sithole, understandably so, was rather confused as to why this vehicle full of strangers was driving up to his house we explained that we had come to feed his dogs (a large motley assortment of extremely skinny Greyhounds, Lurchers and Africanus)

His facial expression soon changed from apprehension to joy he turned to us rather perplexed and asked “Who sent you? Was it God?”, “No”… we replied it was these boys, pointing to The Gwala brothers….. “But who knows?… Maybe God did send them”

It was from that day on that the Gwala Brother’s became “The God Sent Boyz”. They joined the Valley Dogs team on their route every Sunday. Spending their time in the local township, they can see which animals are in the most need. They then point out the neediest of homes to the organisation.

In return, they get given cat food for their beloved cats and chicken food for their Gogo’s hens.

“This past Sunday really had us all in awe… He arrived with a container of cooked mince, (labelled with a handwritten message on the lid), which they had prepared at home in order to help with the feeding… and so… because of all of this, and a whole lot more, we want to introduce you to, The Remarkable Alex Gwala… God Sent Boy”

They love the animals and make sure every single one as a warm full belly. These brothers really are a gift! You can find out more about the work KZN Valley Dogs does here.
