After her home was impacted by heavy rains again and again, kindness came knocking to give a KZN Gogo a new home at last.
Sweetwater, South Africa (03 August, 2023) — A Sweetwater Gogo hasn’t had an easy time with her home over the past few years, but kindness has come knocking thanks to Gift of the Givers.
Gogo Stofelina Zuma’s spot had been heavily impacted by a storm in 2021. She used her pension money to rebuild, but the exercise would prove to be extremely costly. Resorting to materials that were cheaper, a plethora of new problems came about for the Sweetwater Gogo.
A leaking roof, a poor structure and a lack of cement were just some of the missing, all-important touches. And then another blow hit: the extreme rain that took KwaZulu-Natal’s Sweetwater region by literal storm.
Gogo’s home had been impacted again, which required help for her home to be a home and not a hazard.
The local government didn’t have the funds to assist Gogo, as TimesLive Reports. However, instead of brushing the matter aside, they brought it to Gift of the Giver’s Desk.
Within a matter of weeks, Gogo’s two-bedroom fixer-upper had been replaced with a six-bedroom house to accommodate the multiple household members.
But, the building of Gogo’s home also helped others as Gift of the Givers called on Correctional Services to facilitate the labour.
According to Gift of the Givers, this encourages skills development opportunities for offenders, preparing them for release.
Not to mention, ‘house-warming gifts’ were given to the Sweetwater Gogo, including her new bedding and some appliances that will now be safe from rain troubles.
