A kind stranger used LinkedIn to find a tourist and return his wallet.

Western Cape, South Africa (26 February 2023) – A Canadian couple lost their wallet while on holiday in South Africa. They believed it must have been stolen but received a message on LinkedIn from a kind stranger who had found it in a parking lot and returned it to them completely untouched.

Alan Packard and his wife, Robyn Packard, emigrated from South Africa in 1986 but recently returned to visit their nieces in Cape Town. The couple shared an extraordinary experience with Good Things Guy… one that the couple wanted to share with all South Africans.

Last Saturday night, they went to the Waterfront for dinner and after enjoying a delicious meal, Alan asked his wife for his wallet, which he had given her earlier.

“The wallet was no longer in her purse. Naturally, we searched everywhere, including the car and the timeshare where we were staying, but to no avail,” Alan explained.

Since she had left the purse on the back of her chair during the meal, a number of people concluded that it must have been stolen.

Two days later, Alan received a surprising message on his LinkedIn.

“Imagine my joy when I received a LinkedIn email saying that the wallet had been found in the parking lot.”

Prudence Smart had noticed it on the ground while she was driving, had picked it up and searched for its possible owner. Not succeeding that night, she took it upon herself to find the owner. She contacted her friends and acquaintances, both local and overseas, through social media – ultimately leading to a LinkedIn email being sent to Alan.

The following day the couple went to the Old Biscuit Mill, where Prudence has a store where she designs brightly coloured cloth bags, covers and coats and makes Kombucha products named Ombucha. She also runs a non-profit organization, Ubuntu Rising, which provides food for homeless people.

“Prudence handed me the wallet, which was fully intact.”

“I am happy to report this positive experience amidst some of the negative news we have heard recently.”

Stories like these remind us that kindness and good people still exist.
