cancer

Children fighting the greatest battles at the G3 Pediatric Cancer Ward at Tygerberg Hospital were treated to music and presents thanks to a number of organisations.

Thanks to the collaboration of Heart 2 Heart, Rachel’s Wishes and A Beating Heart, children were given a break from their cancer treatments to have some Christmas fun.

Volunteers visited the G3 Pediatric Cancer Warn armed with gifts, snacks and a guitar to make the day extra special. These organisations all work to better the lives of children and new mothers.

A Beating Heart delivers care packages to new mother aiming to provide encouragement through practical gifts that will meet at least some of the essential needs of these tiny babies and their brave Moms.

Heart 2 Heart is a mommy driven network with a vision to ensure that sick and terminally ill children (and their families) from disadvantaged backgrounds don’t face the prospect of a cheerless birthday or national holiday!
“Our goal is to connect moms with a passion to make a difference around the Cape, to organisations and families in need. Whether once off or on a regular basis, a home made cake or a small monetary contribution… by pooling our talents, time and collective compassion we can bring a moment of joy and a lasting memory to a family in grief.”

Rachel’s Wishes was started in memory of Christine Adcock’s youngest daughter, Rachel Catherine Adcock, who died unexpectedly, aged only 3 years, on 5th March 1996. By raising funds for different individuals, organisations and children’s charities, Rachel’s Wishes will continue to improve children’s lives for the better and keep Rachel’s legacy alive.

“A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers, supporters and donors for helping us spread some love and Christmas cheer at G3 Pediatric Cancer Ward at Tygerberg Hospital this morning.

Because of you, our singing Santa, Gavin Edwards and his elves were able to spoil 20 kids (ages 1month to 15 years old) and their family’s with gifts, crackers, cakes and eats!” (sic)

The day was loved by all and a welcome change for the children currently recieving treatment for various types of cancer. Take a look at Singing santa below.
